UL’s testing and certification for firefighting foam analyze the foam’s properties, performance and compatibility with foam equipment in accordance with standards for foam equipment and liquid concentrates.
Some tests performed include foam density, freeze point, response to temperature conditions, fire suppression performance, and functionality with equipment in accordance with the established standards.
Foam liquid concentrates such as protein, fluoroprotein, synthetic, alcohol resistant, aqueous film-forming, film-forming foam and high-expansion concentrates are evaluated to the UL Standards for Safety. Foam equipment such as proportioners, foam chambers, monitors and nozzles are also evaluated to UL Standards. In the United States and Canada, foam and foam equipment are intended to be installed in accordance with the National Fire Protection Association standards NFPA 11 and NFPA 16.
