Ben Ferrar
Chief Operating Officer

Chief Operating Officer of LPW Technology Ltd., Ben is a self-motivated, energetic leader with over 10 years’ experience in the metal Additive Manufacturing industry. He initially worked in applications development for a world leading medical device manufacturer, before taking on the role of AM Research & Development Manager for an AM machine manufacturer.
With an interest in the development of the metal powder supply chain to ensure economic manufacture and the long-term sustainability of the industry, Ben is particularly interested in practical, real life production quality and efficiency. Using his applications and design background he is strongly committed to industrializing solutions for powder lifecycle management.
Ben’s personal goal is to drive forward the adoption of metal 3D printing, recognizing that this will come through sharing an understanding of how to strictly control the integrity of the powder throughout repeated AM builds. He works closely with industry, supporting challenging R&D programs to both inform and educate the rapidly growing AM industry. By developing progressive, integrated systems to deliver, monitor, process and test metal powders throughout the AM build process, Ben is encouraging a new wave of engineers to adopt this exciting, fast growing technology.

Nate Kistler
Lead Applications Engineer
LPW Technologies, Ltd.
Nate Kistler is Lead Applications Engineer with LPW Technology Inc., based in Pittsburgh, PA., focusing on the creation of materials solutions for additive manufacturing. Building on his strong, hands-on experience in quality improvement design for production processes, he is bringing his knowledge of reproducibility from build to build, post-processing analysis of additive manufactured material, and insight into critical process variables to LPW’s US team.
With a passion for innovations in feedstock for metal based AM, Nate gained his BS and MS in Materials Science and Engineering from the Pennsylvania State University. He has participated in government projects, and undertaken research into the effect of powder-bed and directed energy deposition additive manufacturing on the microstructure and mechanical properties of titanium and nickel-based alloys.

Paul Bates
Manager, UL Additive Manufacturing Competency Center
Paul Bates, Manager of the UL AMCC, is an industry-recognized Additive Manufacturing veteran. Bates joined UL in 2014 after serving 20+ years at Reebok where he guided the global athletic footwear leader’s Additive Manufacturing Lab and 3D CAD Team as the Director of Advanced Process Engineering. He holds a BS degree in Design Technology from Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green OH, as well as a Master’s Degree in Technology Management from the University of Phoenix. A 2012 recipient of the Additive Manufacturing User Group (AMUG) “Dinosaur” Award and an acting AMUG Vice President, Bates is fluent in numerous AM processes, including SLS, FDM, and PolyJet. In addition to teaching multiple UL AM Training Program courses, Paul oversees the day-to-day operation of the UL AMCC facility.
