According to the current Standard for Power, control and communication cables – Cables for general applications in construction works subject to reaction to fire requirements, EN 50575, cables with Class Fca should be identified as “No performance determined” (NPD).
However, the European Commission has published a new delegated act to redefine the meaning of Class Fca under the classification of the reaction to fire performance of construction products. The new delegated act has revised the Class Fca to require a determination of the cable performance by a flame test with the test method and criteria as tabulated below. Under the new classification, cables of Class Fca will no longer be “NPD”. Cable manufacturers declaring Class Fca will not be able to claim that they did not determine the performance of their cables.

Class Fca will still be covered by AVCP System 4 which requires manufacturers to take full responsibility of the cable performance declaration while the flame test may be conducted by manufacturers or outside laboratories. For additional information, please contact Dmitriy Bodik at Dmitriy.Bodik@ul.com.
