If you are a battery cell or power adaptor manufacturer intending to import products to India, I am sure you are aware of the 13th of August deadline given by BIS for the compulsory registration of such product types.  Since the expansion of the Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS) in November 2014, there have been many requests for extensions to allow manufacturers time to comply with the registration requirements.

Today, DeitY (Department of Electronics and Information Technology) released a statement extending the August deadline by a further 3 months to the 1st of December 2015.  The extension applies to:

  • Battery cells for portable applications
  • Power adaptors for IT and AV products
  • UPS/ invertors
  • DC or AC supplied electronic control gear for LED modules
  • Fixed general purpose luminaires.

Although an extension has been granted to this small group of products, it should be noted that for successful import of this product type into India without BIS registration, they must still comply with the relevant existing IEC standards.  For manufacturers seeking to comply with the requirements of the BIS CRS program, please get in touch with us to see how UL can help you through the testing process.
