UL and The HDBaseT Alliance recently developed the Certification Program for Power over HDBaseT (PoH) Cables. The program, targeted at cable manufacturers, addresses the increased performance and safety requirements in audiovisual (AV) installations. With increasingly complex installations and the proliferation of power over HDBaseT (PoH) equipment, AV vendors, manufacturers and professionals have indicated the need for standardization and consistency to help guarantee high performance, regardless of the size of cable bundles. The certification evaluates the cable’s ability to carry DC power up to 100 watts over the four pairs of the cable while maintaining the marked category of data transmission performance.

Under the new Certification Program, UL will evaluate the cables in accordance with UL4299, Outline of Investigation for Power over HDBaseT (POH) cables. The cables will also be covered under UL’s Surveillance program, which includes regular inspections at the cable manufacturing facilities and ongoing testing to help insure  continued compliance.

In addition to the PoH cable certification program, UL has also recently been approved by the HDBaseT Alliance as a Recognized Testing Facility for their Recommended Cables program. Under this program, cables are tested in accordance with HDBaseT compliance test specifications to make sure they can effectively transport HDBaseT protocols.

UL is the only testing facility for both HDBaseT Recognized Testing for the Recommended Cables program and UL/HDBaseT PoH Certification.
