Indoor air quality is an ever-growing health concern. Air cleaners can help remove indoor air pollution but some technologies can also produce ozone either, intentionally or as a by-product of their use. According to the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), breathing ozone can trigger various health problems including throat irritation and airway inflammation. To help ensure that your products don’t simply replace one problem with another, UL offers ozone testing to various local and global requirements in its state-of-the-art facilities. Products that demonstrate low ozone emissions can optionally be awarded a UL Validation Mark. Additionally, all portable indoor air cleaning devices sold in California must be certified for low ozone emissions by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) and UL can provide guidance to ease the CARB certification process.
Showing compliance to UL 867, UL 507, and IEC 60335-2-65 is becoming increasingly important in the US, Brazil, Mexico, and other countries. UL has three paths to Certification. For new products, UL provides a customized quote which can include full certification to UL 867, UL 507 and/or IEC 60335-2-65. UL can also re-certify an existing product due to any product changes. For products currently certified by another OSHA NRTL, ANSI or SCC accredited certifier, our simplified conversion program can transfer your existing certification to UL, allowing you to use the globally recognized UL Mark.*
